Abstract
The translation of magnetic particle imaging (MPI) scanners into a clinical stage requires a detailed risk and safety assessment. In order to perform human experiments, the influence of the magnetic fields in use onto the human body have to be evaluated, in particular with view on peripheral nerve stimulation (PNS). While multidimensional excitation studies have been conducted with human abdomen, PNS studies of the human head were limited to a single excitation axis up to this date. In this work, we simulate the expected induced current density of our two-axis MPI scanner drive fields when applied to a detailed anatomical human head model. We compare the acquired results with the defined basic restrictions of the International Commission on Non-Ionizing Radiation Protection and discuss the consequences.
